Four Penrice Academy students from the iPad Genius Team visited Carclaze Primary School to work with Year 5 on an animation project.
Josh, Ben, Morgan and Bryn from Year 9 offered help with filming, editing, and technical advice as the Year 5 students continued on their incredible original Christmas animation, titled sELFish. The movie was filmed using iPads and is based on the idea of a Hollywood Blockbuster, which Year 5 have been learning about all term.
Penrice Art Teacher Mrs King explains: “Year 5 have been working so hard on putting together this film and it’s been great to see our students so eager to help out with the technical side. Each scene can take up to an hour to film, but the results are remarkable.”
The Genius Team also answered questions about Penrice Academy and spoke to the animators about what they can expect from life at secondary school.
Mrs King continued: “They have been brilliant – tasked with the responsibility to help, advise, answer technical queries and represent their school, they totally got stuck in. We cannot wait to see the film when it’s finished!”
“Our iPad Genius Team (who do such great work around the school on a daily basis) visiting Carclaze is a great example of how schools in the Multi Academy Trust are collaborating and sharing in order to improve the learning experience.”
The movie, filmed entirely using iPad apps Animate It, GarageBand and edited on iMovie, is based around Christmas and features familiar scenes of elves, presents and reindeer; but with some exciting twists. It was eventually screened at White River cinema in St Austell.
